"Rakyat menuntut gencatan senjata," teriak mereka menimpali.

Japan's Pervert Superhero Might Be Getting His Own Movie

This story will display in ...Nov 19, 2012 5:00 AM   Japan's Pervert Superhero Might Be Getting His Own MovieThis weekend, when folks settled into dark theaters across Japan to watch the new Evangelion anime, they were, as with most movies, bombarded with previews. Sandwiched betweem the ten or so trailers, was a short, 15-second clip that probably made the audience's collective mouth drop. Most people probably didn't know what the hell they were watching. Those that did wondered if Japanese manga's pervert superhero really getting his own movie.

Hentai Kamen, "the abnormal super hero", is a gag, totally tongue in cheek manga that ran in the early 1990s in Weekly Shonen Jump and followed the adventures of a crime-fighting high schooler who wears a mankini. Wearing panties on his head gives him superpowers.

The 15 second trailer shown before the latest Evangelion depicted a "suiting up" montage that's so common in superhero movies. In this montage, however, you could see a guy's ripped muscles as he put on the mankini spaghetti straps. It showed a rooftop at night, and the character's obscured outline could be made out in the moonlight. The letters "HK", in a metallic Harley Davidson style font, flashed on the screen.

The short trailer looked to be both CG and live action. There was no info about who is starring in the movie or when it's coming out. It didn't even explain what "HK" referred to.

Website IT Media followed up with Hentai Kamen's publisher, who said that it didn't have anything to announce at the present time. Then who was that masked panty-headed man?

How Does Mercedes Benz Promote Cars in Japan? Why with Anime, That's How.

This story will display in ...Nov 19, 2012 5:30 AM   How Does Mercedes Benz Promote Cars in Japan? Why with Anime, That's How. To help launch the all new A-Class in Japan, Mercedes Benz is releasing an animated short in which the car chases after a noodle truck.

One of the country's biggest studios, Production I. G, carries out the animation duties, while Yoshiyuki Sadamoto of Neon Genesis Evangelion fame does the character designs. Miyuki Sawashiro lends her vocal talents to the project.

The vast majority of Mercedes Benz ads in Japan aren't anime like this and certainly don't seem to be region specific. Instead, they appear to be fairly conservative, recycled commercials from either the U.S. or Europe, but with Japanese voiceovers and text.

However, Mercedes Benz seems to think it can aim the small, fairly reasonably priced A-Class at younger Japanese; hence, a splashier ad campaign. Check out the car's Japanese site. It's an assault on the senses.

The visuals and voice acting are top notch; however, the guitar music is truly awful.

When Balloon Art Goes Very Wrong and Very Phallic

This story will display in ...Nov 19, 2012 6:20 AM   When Balloon Art Goes Very Wrong and Very PhallicThe Tetsuwan Dash is a long running Japanese series that features boy band (and former Xbox 360 spokesmen) Tokio. On the show, the group tries to pull off a variety of feats, like building a foam house or seeing who can last longest on the least amount of money—stuff like that.

This weekend's show had the group do balloon art, using enormous, handmade balloons. They were supposed to make a turtle balloon. Obviously this is a work in progress, but what they've got sure doesn't look like a turtle.

When Balloon Art Goes Very Wrong and Very Phallic

The shape wasn't lost on those making the balloon art, as evident by the above quote above (?????????????), which means, "This might look better."

Few Anime Get as Pretentious as This

This story will display in ...Nov 19, 2012 6:50 AM   Few Anime Get as Pretentious as ThisWhen the latest Neon Genesis Evangelion flick hit theaters this weekend in Japan, the next Evangelion film was revealed. And at first look, its title appears annoyingly pretentious. It is. But it's also interesting.

The teaser webpage this appears on has the world "final" in the URL. The text says, "Next time, a new Evangelion movie :||" (??? ??·???????????:||).

What the hell is :||, you might be asking! It's a sign in music that can either denote the end of a piece or that the piece repeats. The problem is that if this is actually used in the title, the general public won't know how to say it or what it means. "Evangelion, colon, vertical line and darker vertical line" doesn't sound very cool.

This symbol does make sense because the naming of the recent Eva films, as goofy and pretentious as they are, appear to be based on the traditional three act structure in Japan of jo-ha-kyuu (???), which is often translated to "beginning, break, rapid". This structure is common in Japanese arts.

This structure seems to exist in the new Evangelion movies, which are called Rebuild of Evangelion (or Evangelion: the New Movies) in Japan. In the original Japanese title for Evangelion 1.0, there is a "jo" (?). Before Evangelion 2.0, there is a "ha" (?). However, before the recently released Evangelion 3.0, there is the English letter "Q", a pun for "kyuu" (?).

Those who know Japanese will noticed that the Rebuild of Evangelion movies write Evangelion (????????) slightly different from the way the series was traditional written in Japanese (????????), as a way to mark a distinction—highlight the "rebuild" quality, if you will.

Also, "new" (?? or "shin") is written in Japanese katakana for the just announced Eva as opposed to using the kanji character (?). However, this is assuming "shin" here actually means "new". Since it's being written phonetically, it could stand for, for example, the "shin" (?) kanji character that means "true", "real", or "genuine".

That musical symbol, then, would infer that this is not only an end to the Rebuild trilogy, but a return to the roots of Evangelion—another reboot? Or it could simply be "Evangelion, colon, vertical line and darker vertical line."

Five Best Webcams

This story will display in ...

Five Best Webcams The best webcams are the ones that are affordable, easy to set up, offer great video quality, and doesn't make you look like a blurry, standard-def mess when you wave at the screen. Of course, there are plenty that fit that description, so we asked you which ones you thought were worth buying. Here's a look at the five best, based on your nominations.

Earlier in the week, we asked you which webcams you thought were the best of breed, even considering that many computers have them built-in these days. You responded, and while we only have room for the top five, we definitely had plenty of models to sort through.

Five Best Webcams

If you work from home and use video to stay in touch with colleagues and attend meetings, or if you just use it to stay in touch with friends and family around the world, the Logitech C920 HD webcam offers stunning video quality—including Skype and other video calling (when supported) in 1080p, autofocus, sensitive dual stereo microphones, and full HD video recording if you produce video from your computer. The C920 clips to your monitor easily, but if you need portability, the webcam even has a standard screw attachment on the bottom to fit a tripod so you can position it anywhere you need it. If you need to take still images, the C920 will snag up to 15 megapixel still images. Plus, Logitech's cameras are compatible with almost any operating system, including Windows, OS X, and Linux.

Five Best Webcams

Microsoft's LifeCam HD-5000 (and its newer sibling, the HD-5001) trims back some of the bells and whistles to make a more manageable price tag. It packs 720p HD video recording and video chat in Skype and other video calling apps, autofocus so the object of attention is always crystal clear, and face tracking, so even if you move you don't get all blurred out to the person on the other end of your video call. Video recording comes in at 720p as well, and Microsoft's TrueColor technology automatically adjusts for bright or low light scenarios, offering great video even when the light doesn't cooperate. The HD-5000 is also a portable camera, less than 2 inches wide and 5 inches tall.

Five Best Webcams

The LifeCam Cinema offers additional features that some of its other camera models don't have, like a rotating neck that allows you to position the camera at almost any angle, a wideband microphone mounted on the top to snag your audio as well as video, beautiful autofocus to keep recordings and video chats crystal clear, and crisp 720p HD video recording and video calling. That microphone also comes bundled with noise isolation technology to make sure only the intended sounds make it onto your recordings and the people you talk to on the other end of your Skype chat aren't distracted by noise outside your window. Plus, even though Microsoft only touts its Windows compatibility, many of you noted that their cameras are OS X compatible.

Five Best Webcams

At the high end of Microsoft's webcam lineup is the LifeCam Studio, another camera many of you nominated for it's stunning true full HD video, coming in at 1080p for video recording and photo stills. Microsoft says you'll get 720p in video chats and calls over Skype or Google Hangouts, and 1080p if you're using a service that supports it and have a computer that meets the system requirements. If you need it on top of your monitor, it'll fit there easily, but if you want to mount it on a tripod, the LifeCam Studio sports a standard screw attachment so it can set up anywhere. Microsoft bundles its TrueColor technology with this camera as well, along with the glass lens cover from the LifeCam Cinema, all designed to perform well in odd lighting while keeping the image nice and clear. The LifeCam Studio also packs a noise isolating microphone, so you won't need an extra one for video calls.

Five Best Webcams

If you want dead simple HD video calling and still photos, without all the bells and whistles (and the price tag) of many of the others, the Logitech C270 offers a simple camera with a rubberized clip to attach to your monitor, and that's about it. You get 720p video with the C270, 3 megapixel still photos, and a built-in noise isolating microphone. The C270 does a good job of auto-correcting for low or bright light as well. Plus: works great in Windows and OS X without additional driver installs - which also makes it a great webcam for a Hackintosh!

Now that you've seen the top five, it's time to put them to an all out vote.

dude

Honorable mentions this week go out to the now-discontinued Logitech Webcam C160, which at least one of you praised specifically because it's so DIY friendly. It's not the best—it's not even in the same league as most of the above, but at least you can take it apart and play with its optics. I think T_Beermonster mentioned he hooked his up to a telescope, which is pretty impressive. Also worth a nod is the webcam installed in your laptop or desktop, which a few of you nominated anyway.

Have something to say about one of the contenders? Want to make the case for your personal favorite, even if it wasn't included in the list? Remember, the top five are based on your most popular nominations from the call for contenders thread from earlier in the week. Make your case for your favorite—or alternative—in the discussions below.

The Hive Five is based on reader nominations. As with most Hive Five posts, if your favorite was left out, it's not because we hate it—it's because it didn't get the nominations required in the call for contenders post to make the top five. We understand it's a bit of a popularity contest, but if you have a favorite, we want to hear about it. Have a suggestion for the Hive Five? Send us an email at tips+hivefive@lifehacker.com!

Is it possible to share files or stream video to my android tablet or iPod Touch from my [Windows 7] laptop without a router? Do you think there will be comparable deals to Black Friday in-store sales online over the weekend or on Cyber Monday? I remember hearing that most flagship phones are released by their manufacturers in Q1 of each year. Is this true? How does everyone keep track of Christmas gifts? Who you're buying for, how much you're spending on each, and a list of what you plan to buy. Is there a way to take an old no-longer-updating blog and make an RSS feed out of it that starts from the beginning and updates, say, once a day, as though the blog was still new? Does anyone know of ways to combine Gmail's inbox types? My RWD trucks's tires have a decent amount of tread left but they have very little grip in the rain. Would placing sand bags in the back help? I want to start going to the gym and lifting weights. Are there specific sets of muscles that I should focus on on a specific day? I'd like to setup a combo file explorer/picture gallery for my family's use on my server. Any suggestions on how to do that? How do I use a PC I have lying around to act as a printer server via the internet?
